This Saturday 9th November, we will be going as a family to the Scottish Eventers Ball and Awards presentation night at Airth Castle, Stirlingshire.
It has been on our mind to present an award in George’s memory at the ball. We have so many happy memories of going as a family over the years – but definitely NOT sitting together though. For a start, I couldn’t down Jager Bombs like those two could!
We are making the award to a young person that has tried their best, sometimes against the odds and sometimes when things just don’t go right but you keep putting that number bib on, waiting for the ‘explosion’ of the horse underneath you to erupt, but still you are there taking part and rising to the challenge. We kind of feel this was a bit of how it was for George. Forgetting dressage tests with his dyslexia being such a problem and getting that horn beep for error of the course from the judge was just one of the challenges.
So, here is a photo of the award – not quite conventional but then George wasn’t the role model of convention. This has been so kindly donated to us by Kenny Scott from Caddon Design (www.caddondesign.com). Kenny really wanted to give something to the charity and could see George could be fun and quirky and this is what we thought would perfectly ‘fit the bill’. We are also including a £250 bursary award towards the training costs of the rider/horse combination. So, after this weekend, we will post a photo and name the first recipient of this “George Crawford Endeavour Award”.
