There was such a good response to the invitation sent out by Mary & Cameron for support in the launching of this fund in George’s memory that the venue had to be changed from Cameron & Mary’s home and move next door to brother Michael and sister-in-law Debbie’s home as there was a bit more room available to host everyone.

It was a very successful evening with friends and family circulating around enjoying the atmosphere as well as lovely canapes and a few drinks! As people were welcomed through the front door, they were invited to buy raffle tickets for some fantastic prizes donated by good friends, and there was also an auction of desirable lots which along with the ticket sales raised the sum raised to over £3,770. Thanks must go to the lads and lassies of Teviotdale Young Farmers’ Club for acting as waiters for the evening free of charge.

This was a great start to achieving the amount of money required to operate a workable Trust Fund which could offer grants to various schemes of help and support for others, or to individuals to help them achieve a goal in life.

George was enthusiastic in everything he tried and his legacy fund will try to reflect his own ambition in trying to achieve worthwhile goals, and going on that little bit further – Onwards and Upwards – a good motto!

It was also that first night we introduced for sale the purple polo shirts and baseball caps and that Mary had designed the Logo with George’s passion for Ford Tractors being important to introduce. The idea is to have these items for sale at various other charity events that will be running in the future and for the cyclists to wear in the evenings after changing from their cycling gear with the George Logo and all the sponsors on them.
