Thursday 25th July saw the National Under 18 Eventing Championship kick off for 2019 at Frickley Park, Doncaster. This takes the form of eight teams, Scotland being one of them, with eight to ten competitors per team competing over four days.
George and Lucinda both represented the Scottish Team in 2016 which brought us so many happy memories. Team spirit was encapsulated by our squad and it was such a well organised and run event which was testament to the Warde-Aldam family who own and the park and run the event. It was a wonderful opportunity for George’s age group to experience competing in the long format 3-day event style.
Following on from 2016, Lucinda became successful in becoming Under 18 National Champion in 2018 finishing on her dressage score and for her, a memorable and best achievement of her riding career to date. A day we will never forget when it just all went just right!
Since October last year the Warde-Aldam family have continued to extend their friendship and support. The contacted us earlier this year to say that they had chosen the George Crawford Legacy Trust as well as the Hannah’s Wilberry Wonder Pony to be their two charities at the event for 2019.
So, on Thursday 25th July this year, I had the opportunity to speak about the Trust and the journey we have been on since our tragic event on the 7th October last year after which, a successful auction and raffle took place. It was very poignant to be facing such a young crowd of eventers and their parents all eagerly anticipating the competitive days that lay ahead and the highs and lows that competing with horses bring you on a very regular basis. The lows almost always seem to win! After my speech, I asked all there to raise their glasses to the Ward-Aldam family since this would be the last Under 18 Championship being held at Frickley Park. So, with a tear in my eye we left the park for all the memories it gave us.
Later in August we received £2476.00 – an amazing amount from all that attended on that glorious sunny night. Thank you.
Many thanks must go to the Warde-Aldam family and all at Frickley for making this amount happen.
